raunchy r&b-funk out of seattle! camelot records, operated by jan kurtis skugstad from 1964 to 1966, released an astounding number of 45s during its short time of existence. jim pipkin & the boss fives mr. c.c. and walkin the duck were one of them. camelot is best known in collector circles for two monster releases by organist ron buford (accompanied on vocals by ural thomas on deep soul). originally mr. c.c. and walkin the duck were released on two different 45s. from now on you can save your og copies by playing this much crispier sounding re-issue.

timely outing from two grand masters of exploratory electronics. kassel jaeger is the moniker of french musician françois bonnet who works at the grm and has released a number of books including the highly regarded the order of sounds, a sonorous archipelago published by urbanomic in 2016. jim o rourke is known to most through his explorations of the song and shapes, the high and low, the east and south. wakes on cerulean is a joint adventure where process folds upon process and the operation of procedure remains unknown. amongst a mysterious cloud of excited high frequencies tiny whistling howls. frog leaps in technique lay out a thrilling and uplifting journey that runs from the soothing to ecstatic and back to the buoyant again. wakes on cerulean is a staggering feast of the joys found in electronic process. a malleable bubble of hovering excitement, melody and joyous refrain.

lobster theremin present their first label album, a double lp from chicago resident and elusive young talent, chicago jim. having cut his teeth on a life growing up in the windy city, jim s reverent ability to spin synthopian tales of old-school chicago and the birth of house music are a genuine reflection of a talent rarely seen at the helm of records in the post-00 s. label head jimmy asquith discovered the album online, originally released through chicago tape imprint pretty all right, and after streaming one track said tape was swiftly purchased and absorbed.

the recordings for the wires cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in october of 2012. i had mentioned in discussing a previous albums construction that i prefer to forget how i build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. this is so that i dont get to precious with them, so that i could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. with the album being relatively fresh in my mind, i can still recall various components to the wires cracked -- the desolate howl of a metal screen activated by a desert wind, the hissing air compression from the cooling apparatus for a laser at the slac national accelerator laboratory operated by stanford university, and the tremolo rhythms from a thin wire that still get me thinking fondly of günter schickert -- but much of the caustic drone, thrumming reverberation, and tactile grit thoroughly escapes me. that is probably for the best, since these various parts speak to an existential rupturing, the collapse of the self, the aftershocks of dark energy, and a belief in the hope for renewal. this is the debut vinyl release from up & coming producer jim morton. the 12 inch presents two different flavours of the jungle sound. the a side is nyc-dub, a heavy duty track with plenty of pace and energy. an atmospheric vibe is present but the production still carries enough weight with the beats and sub to work the dance floor. think ray keith meets breakage!
on side b, >underwater chord< is again a jungle bass tune but on a different vibe. it is a brighter sounding track, due to the chords and sounds used, which wouldnt be out of place in a liquid style production. with both tracks there is a tip of the cap towards the old skool sound.

a debut release for both band and label, parisian duo paradis bring two eloquently produced tracks to beats in space in the form of the >parfait tirage / la ballade de jim< 12 inch (bis001). admirers from afar of dj tim sweeneys weekly on air institution of 12 years (from which the label takes its name), paradis submitted demos hoping they might hack it for some play time. reared on classical and jazz, turned young hip hop rebels, turned teen club crawlers, and then university machine tinkerers, simon meny & pierre rousseau grew out of genre jumping while young enough to stay ahead and settle into music making centered around melody and emotion.

redux kick off 2011 with an absolutely superb debut release from white elephant - a super limited 10 inch only release of rare balearic bliss! white elephant are benjamin smith (smith & mudd) and jim baron and chris todd (crazy p), so expectations for the collaboration were more than met when they delivered this sublime cut. on the flip, merc supremo mark e expertly reinterprets the stunning a side with one of his best remixes to date, keeping the vibe or the original intact, but taking it into solid, floor-shaking beatdown house territory.
